Has Your Book Become a Tyrant?

“Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.”

Winston Churchill

I can relate to Churchill on this matter. The adventure stage has long since passed. The book has been written. Written, edited, and rewritten.  Not once, but multiple times. It has become the tyrant, demanding yet more attention before being released to the world, demanding perfection. The question that begs to be answered is whether I have reached the last phase. Am I ready to stand up to the tyrant, to say enough is enough, and release him to the world?

Hey Rosie – I love this post! Sounds like we’re at the same level with our works. I say let the tyrants loose and see whom they may devour! LOL!! Many helpful people along the way have told me to just accept rejection as part of the process…and not to worry…someone out there really does want to read your story. 😉 Keep up the posts – they’re very helpful and fun. ~Janet~
